Professor of Aerospace Engineering
Wednesday - October 21, 2020
5:00 PM CST
Abstract:
The presentation will start with a brief introduction to hypersonics and different types of hypersonic vehicles. Following the introduction, Dr. Hosder will give an overview of the recent and current computational hypersonics research conducted by his research group at the Aerospace Simulations Laboratory of the MAE department, which include projects focusing on planetary entry vehicles, thermal protection systems, and hypersonic air-breathing propulsion. The talk will be concluded with a brief discussion on the graduate school opportunities for hypersonics research.
Brief Bio:
Dr. Serhat Hosder is currently a professor of aerospace engineering and the director of the Aerospace Simulations Laboratory at the MAE department. He received his PhD degree in Aerospace Engineering from Virginia Tech in 2004 and joined the MAE department of Missouri S&T in 2007 as an assistant professor. His main research interests include computational aerothermodynamics, multi-fidelity modeling of hypersonic flows and technologies, uncertainty quantification and reduction in hypersonic systems and measurements, planetary entry/descent/landing of spacecraft and aerodynamic shape optimization. Dr. Hosder is an associate fellow of AIAA and currently serves as the chair of the AIAA Hypersonic Technologies and Space Planes (HyTASP) Technical Committee.
