Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering
As an aerospace engineer you may work on Earth or in space. In whatever area of the aerospace industry you choose, you'll be one of many engineers working to extend humanity's frontiers and develop a more complete understanding of our home planet. Few fields offer more fascinating or diverse careers.
If your interests lie"...
"...on the ground, you might research and develop enviromentally clean
energy and transportation systems.
"...in the air, you might design, construct, test, or fly any type of
aircraft-from jet fighters and giant bombers to commercial and private
planes.
"...beyond our atmosphere, you might work in the space industry on diverse
projects like rockets, satellites, and shuttles.
Our ABET-accredited Aerospace undergraduate curriculum includes basic science
and engineering principles (mathematics, physics, chemistry, statics, dynamics)
with a solid technical knowledge in aerospace engineering disciplines
(aerodynamics, space dynamics, materials, structures, stability and control,
propulsion, aerothermochemistry, and aircraft & spacecraft design). The
curriculum is flexible enough for you to satisfy the technical elective
requirements with course work in and/or outside the Aerospace Department,
allowing you to take courses in Computer Engineering/Science, Electrical
Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, and Chemical
Engineering.)
UMR AIAA Student Chapter
The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) is the
principal society of the aerospace engineer and scientist. It's primary purpose
is to advance the arts, sciences, and technology of aeronautics and
astronautics, and to promote the professionalism of those engaged in these
pursuits. AIAA is the world's largest professional society devoted to the
progress of engineering and science in aviation, space, and defense. Students
in the UMR AIAA Chapter are very active in a wide range of educational,
research, and outreach activities.
Sigma Gama Tau
Sigma Gamma Tau is the honor society for Aerospace Engineering. It seeks to
identify and recognize achievement and excellence in the aerospace field. The
objectives of Sigma Gamma Tau are: "to recognize and honor those
individuals in the field of aeronautics and astronautics who have, through
scholarship, integrity, and outstanding achievement, been a credit to their
profession."
UMR AAVG
The Advanced Aero-Vehicle Group (AVVG) is a team of undergraduate and
graduate students involved in aerospace design who compete in national and
international contests. The purpose of this group is to provide graduate and
undergraduate students in a variety of disciplines a practical outlet of the
application of classroom concepts and to promote Missouri S&T students
internationally.
