SME Missouri S&T Chapter
The Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) is the world's leading professional society supporting lifelong manufacturing education. The SME, founded in 1932, has more than 65,000 members and has chartered more than 275 chapters and 240 student chapters, spread over 70 countries. Through our member programs, publications, expositions and professional development resources, SME promotes an increased awareness of manufacturing engineering and helps keep manufacturing professionals up to date on leading trends and technologies. Headquartered in Dearborn, Michigan, SME influences more than half a million manufacturing engineers, executives, and practitioners annually.
The Society of Manufacturing Engineers at Missouri University of Science & Technology, Rolla (SME-MS&T) seeks to enhance the field of Manufacturing Engineering and train the future leaders in the manufacturing related areas. In the past, it organized several certificate workshop programs and guest lectures for its members free of cost. SME also funded several scholarship and assistantship opportunities, class projects for both undergraduate and graduate students at UMR. SME members at Rolla also taught high school students and teachers in St Louis area to increase awareness on manufacturing education. SME advisor along with other members also developed lean simulation game to explain lean manufacturing process. Some of the other befits includes:
