LEARNING LABORATORIES

In this laboratory, students use computers and industry standard software as instruments for measurement, data processing and systems control. The facility supports the capstone mechanical engineering laboratory course ME 280-Computer Data Acquisition and Control.

LabVIEW PORTION OF THE LABORATORY

 

Description: National Instruments' LabVIEW software is used for data acquisition and system output such that students learn to analyze and control systems of interest.

 

Equipment:



 

Four 800-MHz Windows NT 4.0 Dell Inspiron PCs

 National Instruments' LabVIEW software

 PCI 1200 data acquisition board

 Two DC and stepper motors

 Function generator for aliasing and distortion demonstration

 

Goals:

 PC-based data acquisition, analysis, and control

 Aliasing and distortion

 Programming with LabVIEW software

 Feedback control of DC and stepper motors

PLC PORTION OF THE LABORATORY

 

Description: The students use VersaPro software and GE-Fanuc Programmable Logic Controllers to design and control an automated system such that it meets described requirements in the process of demonstrating real world industrial applications.

 VersaPro software

 Four GE Fanuc 90-30 Programmable Logic Controllers

 Two crane automation setups

 Two cart/block sorting automation setups
