Dr. Schmidt Receives Class of '42 Excellence in Teaching Award

During the Miner Alumni Association’s Legends Luncheon on Friday, October 14, 2016, Dr. Jillian Schmidt was presented with the Class of ’42 Excellence in Teaching Award.  This luncheon was held in collaboration with Missouri S&T’s homecoming activities.  The Class of ’42 Excellence in Teaching Award recognizes a faculty member who has demonstrated excellence in effective teaching efforts.  The award is based upon student feedback surveys that are conducted at the end of each semester.

The award was established in 1992, when the class of ’42 gathered for their golden reunion.  The late Robert Pohl, ChE’42, pushed for establishing an endowment to reward effective teachers.  The first award was given in 1993.

Dr. Schmidt joined the mechanical and aerospace engineering department in 2015 after receiving her Ph.D. in Materials Science from the University of Minnesota.  She has taught Introduction to Engineering Design, Introduction to Spacecraft Design, and Aerodynamics 1.
