Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering is the largest department at the Missouri University of Science and Technology. With 33 faculty members and 15 staff members, we are presently educating over 720 students. Approximately 600 are enrolled in our ABET-accredited BS programs: about 500 in Mechanical Engineering (ME) and 100 in Aerospace Engineering (AE). The remaining students are pursuing graduate degrees-MS, DE, and PhD-in ME and AE. We have expanded our graduate offerings to include a non-thesis option at the master's level, as well as several graduate certificate programs.
Our course offerings continue to grow while research efforts expand into novel arenas. With the help of distinguished alumni and friends we are presently embarking on a capital campaign to gather funding for a new facility to house this growth.
The Missouri S&T vision includes "the desire to be a university which is recognized as a premier source of readily available knowledge, creativity and education and whose faculty, staff, and students serve the needs of the society of which it is a part."
MAE's Role:
As the largest department on campus, the Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering (MAE) has the opportunity to play a leadership role in Missouri S&T's mission. MAE has developed a plan to build on our strengths--technical depth and breadth on a campus sized for personal interaction--by incorporating creativity, communication, and leadership into the curriculum. In and out of the classroom, we seek to create an environment for Missouri S&T students that maximizes opportunities to learn and develop the skills they will need to adapt to change throughout their personal and professional lives and face tomorrow's challenges with confidence.
