MAE Building named Toomey Hall

Construction is completed on the renovation and expansion of the Missouri University of Science and Technology's Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Complex. The lead gift of $5 million from John and Mary (Kelly) Toomey of Alexandria, VA names the facility Toomey Hall. The $29 million (spring 2007 estimate) modernization renovated the current 66,500 square foot Mechanical Engineering Building and replaced the outdated Mechanical Engineering Annex -- built in 1902 with a modern addition.

The facilities portion of our vision for the future has been researched and developed through the combined effort of MAE faculty and staff members, Missouri S&T's facilities personnel, and members of the Academy of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineers. Missouri S&T shares a vision to build and enhance the national prominence of our Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering program. The centerpiece of that vision is this new world class teaching and research facility that reflects the quality and caliber of Missouri S&T's students and faculty.

Excellence in education and research has always been Missouri S&T's strength. Changes in technology require world-class teaching and research facilities that not only meet today's needs, but also anticipate tomorrow's challenges. The renovation and expansion of the MAE complex allows students and faculty to build upon Missouri S&T's proud tradition of scientific achievement and educational advancement.

The project renovated and modernized the existing Mechanical Engineering Building, replaced the ME Annex with a new 80,500 square foot addition, and joined the two with a three-story atrium which houses the Product Innovation and Creativity Center (PICC).
